Symbolist Nude Oil on Canvas by Francois Quelvee, French
France
Dated 1941
Bold strokes, heavy paint and impasto are used to enrich the flavor and sensuousness of this masterfully painted oil on canvas work by Francois Quelvee. The depth and richness of this work are emboldened by the generous amount of paint applied. Not just a simple nude with very little attention given to background, this painting is fully developed with attention to the smallest detail. A particularly beautiful custom frame is used to further enhance the classic beauty of this work. This painting is commanding in any venue with its size and striking image. Francois Quelvee was born in France in 1884 and died in 1968. Quelvee had a long and storied career. He exhibited in all of the prestigious salons in Europe. He painted nudes and still lifes and was one of the earliest of the modern artists. He is found in most of the European art books.
Size of actual painting without frame: 31-1/2" high x 25" wide.

Still Life Oil Painting with Parrot
United States
Circa 1920
Very large, impressive, colorful, and highly detailed oil painting on canvas of a still life scene with a parrot. Our pictures don't do it justice: This painting is a dazzler. It is artist signed, "L. Chappel," who was a local San Francisco artist. This painting had been with one family for at least the last 50 years and had been at our house for the last 10 years. The photo distorts the size, making it appear square; however, it is 12" wider than it is high.

This is the mate to the one in which the gentlement are toasting. Great for a billiard room and also for your corkscrew collectors, as the corkscrew is prominently displayed. The frame is original and has gessoe detailing which links it to the subject of the print. This one is entitled, "Froze." We'd be happy to see the two go together as a pair.
